Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross
(C.F. Zimmermann/Godet)
This Knights Cross was manufactured by the firm C.F.Zimmermann and it has been found that
the same dies were used to produce the RK's of the firm Godet.
As this cross is marked L/52 (LDO private retail code) then
we have to assume this cross was made around 1941 because in mid 1941 all private retail of the Knight's cross was forbidden.
We also find that these two companies also shared the dies for their Iron Crosses 1st and
2nd clase yet not the German Cross.
This particular RK was awarded to:
Leutnant
Sachsenberg, Heinz
* 12.07.1922 Dessau/Sachsen-Anhalt
+ 17.06.1951 Lich
Ritterkreuz am: 09.06.1944
als: Fahnenjunker-Feldwebel
Funktion: Flugzeugführer 6./JG 52
(Shown here by the kind permission of the François Saez Collection)
This particular example is marked on the ribbon loop with L/52 and 800 but the frame
appears to not be marked. The core is Iron.
