The Air Radio Operator/Air Gunner Badge was instituted in January 1935 and awarded to aircrew
that had qualified as radio-operators and air-gunners. The early badges were of high quality and construction exhibiting
fine detail and hand finishing. Later these changed to inferior materials, such as zinc, as the war progressed.
The
badge was worn on the left-hand breast pocket of the tunic and below the EK1, if awarded.
